Sneaks’ New Album Drops Back to Hip Hop with an Excellent Beat

If I had to pick, I would say the best indie hip hop album of this year so far (a whole two months in) would be Highway Hypnosis by Sneaks. Created by just one person, the album shows immense power in a very minimalist album.

It’s a Myth was excellent. An album that I personally need to listen to from start to finish whenever I put it on. But as interesting and captivating Sneaks push into a fully indie-pop album was, the powerful jump back to her quirky hip-hop style with her new album Highway Hypnosis was definitely needed.

The album offers a mix of genres played over a drum machine and a bass played by Sneaks herself. It definitely delves into funk and some post-punk, but the overall sound is upbeat and modern. The point of this clash of genre distinction is to say: no matter what genre(s) you stan for, Highway Hypnosis is worth the enjoyable listen that it will be.

Love Yourself with BTS

K-pop group BTS released a trailer for their 2019 World Tour this morning. Dates have been announced for Sao Paul, London, Paris and three U.S. locations. The Love Yourself: Speak Yourself global tour is a follow up to their latest album, LOVE YOURSELF 轉 ‘Tear’.

Mitski’s Surreal Music Video for “Nobody”

This summer, Mitski released her latest album, titled Be The Cowboy. As greatly as this album has been reviewed, the interesting music video for the song “Nobody” should also be pointed out.

Just like the song itself, the video is brightly colored with a dark sound and feel. With walls painted primary colors where arms are hanging out and ice cream dates with herself, this indie artist gives us an unexpectedly experimental and surreal video.

There are already discussions and videos explaining the meaning behind the video. But I figured it’s worth a watch before choosing whether you want the answer given away. The video is directed by Christopher Good and the link is available here.

Phoebe Bridgers Comments On Recent Ryan Adams Allegations

Phoebe Bridgers, one of the many musicians who have made sexual assault allegations against Ryan Adams, has recently commented on the situation via Instagram.

It’s been a weird week and I wanted to say a couple things. Thank you from my whole fucking heart to my friends, my bands, my mom. They all supported and validated me. They told me that what had happened was fucked up and wrong, and that I was right to feel weird about it. I couldn’t have done this without them. Ryan had a network too. Friends, bands, people he worked with. None of them held him accountable. They told him, by what they said or by what they didn’t, that what he was doing was okay. They validated him. He couldn’t have done this without them. Guys, if your friend is acting fucked up, call them out. If they’re actually your friend, they’ll listen. That’s the way this all gets better.

Adams have a vague apology, essentially denying he did anything. His ex-wife, Mandy Moore, has also stated “Music was a point of control for him,” she said in an interview with the Times.

Adams misconduct has been going on for years and with many young women in the industry, which is a major problem lately.

Vera Blue for Greenpeace Australia

Australian singer/songwriter Vera Blue released a new single and music video last week. Her single “Like I Remember You” is accompanied by a video made by the organization Greenpeace Australia Pacific for their cause People vs. Oil. The video starts by saying “ The great Australian bight is in danger from risky oil drilling and spilling. Her soft airy voice is paired with videos of oil spills affect on the environment and animals as well as protest in outrage of this careless handling of fossil fuels.
