Popular music or “pop” for short has been through many evolutions since its conception in the 1950s. In recent years, we have seen pop music transform from the upbeat, bubblegum vibes of the early 2000s to a pop music that has been heavily influenced by rap music. Rap has slowly but surely becoming the more popular genre of music, so although pop music is short for popular music, the idea and sound of pop music is what cemented itself into the music mainstream.

The 2019 Super Bowl saw the Patriots dominate the Rams, but it also saw the domination of pop music during its halftime show. The band Maroon 5 performed a medley of their biggest hits, both old and new, while also including appearances from Travis Scott and Big Boi. The band also gave a tribute to the late creator of the children’s show Spongebob with a quick snippet of a clip from the show.
