The Lizard Wizard Returns

Deemed Australians psych-rock champions by Consequence of Sound, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard are back.

This morning we were presented with the six and a half minute jam that is “Cyboogie”. This is the first song they’ve released since their ambitious five albums in 2017. It does really hold up to its name as a ‘cyber boogie’, 1980’s style synths are paired alongside a classically boogie sounding bass groove. Alongside the single is a retro music video with a sci-fi feel. Directed by Jason Galea, the video is six minutes of the band clad in red jumpsuits and what appear to be VR helmets playing next to 1990s computer terminals, and manages to feel retro and futuristic at the same time. While they have not made any hints at more new music I would not be surprised to see an album from them within the year.
